THE UNOFFICIAL SOUTH PADRE ISLAND SPRING BREAK GUIDE

Issue #3 - posted 3/3/03

Greetings Intrepid Breakers,

I know that some of you are already packing your duds and
getting ready to hit the road and are doubtless wondering what
you will find when you get here. Let me give you some clues:

Speed Traps

While there are some indications that Port Isabel is giving Los
Fresnos a run for its money as South Texas' most infamous speed
trap - - the truth of the matter is that every highway patrol
officer between wherever you are and here is ready, willing and
eager to meet you as you speed through his/her town - especially
if you are a minor carrying a trunkload o' beer. Every little
community and its brother is hoping for a slice of the spring
break pie so if you are not really interested in subsidizing
these burgs you might oughta slow down and take it easy on your
way here. We promise we won't go and have _too much fun without
you...

Weather

As you may have seen on the tube, Texas got hit with a late
winter storm this week. We didn't get any snow here on SPI but
it hasn't exactly been beach weather the last couple of days.
However, just before _that it was all hot, sunshiney and
beautiful. Weather patterns change very quickly here this time
of year so you'd best come prepared for just about anything
(except snow, of course.) Temps are supposed to be climbing back
into the high 70's by this weekend and things look good from
there on out but be sure and pack your sweats just in case.

And while we are talking about clothes: I noticed on the message
board someone asking about dress codes. You will find no such
critter here at any club at any time of the year. Dress for
comfort, dress for style, dress to impress the ladies/gents but
you do not have to dress to impress the bouncer (though it
surely can't hurt, eh?)

Music Poll Results

Top three acts: Fat Joe; Fabolous and Eve
A majority of you would be willing to spend as much as $20 on
a ticket for one of the above artists
You prefer hip-hop and/or rock to reggae by roughly 5:2

Thanks to all who participated.

Club News

"Chaos" is open and looks to be a heavyweight contender in this
year's club wars. The place has lots of room with a big
covered-but-open area in the middle -- and lots of rooms
including a restaurant, a tattoo parlor (complete with two
humungous snakes in a windowbox), a sports bar, a room with lots
of pool tables, the obligatory t-shirt shop, and a club for
underagers. The joint celebrated its grand opening last weekend
and the totally unconfirmed report I hear is that some 3000 folks
showed up Friday night and got so rowdy that all the local jails
reached full capacity and the cops were lugging some offenders
all the way to the county lockup in Brownsville.

Sounds like spring break, all right....

After Hours Clubs: Add "Revolution" to the list of after hour
spots. This one is reportedly located at Brennan's Third Coast
on the north end of town (convenient to those of you staying at
the Bahia Mar and Travelodge.) Still no reports from Tequila Frog's
or Krusty's though presumably both will be alive and kicking.
Someone on the forum pointed to a press release saying that Girls
Gone Wild will be broadcasting live (PPV) from Tequila Frog's on
3/13. You will find more club-specific news at---

SpiBreak.com

If you haven't been by lately be sure and check out the latest
items on the activities page - I have been updating it 2-3 times
daily as new dates are confirmed.

Dad-Cam - He's at it again! I am of course talking about Don "Dad
Feets" Wierenga - the official SpiBreak.com photo guy who just
happens to be my dad. Veterans from last year will doubtless have
fond remembrances of his candid photos and pithy reports from the
heart of spring break '02. Well Dad is back on the beach at
"Ground Zero" with a new digital camera and his own domain name
(dad-cam.com) to use as he likes. He has already begun coverage
with photos of the stage erection process in front of the Rad -
watch spring break unfold at dad-cam.com!

Ask Sandy

An all-too-common sample of the kind of questions I get:
Q. "hey i want to come to spi but i dont have a clue where to
start, do you know where some friends and i can find a house to
rent. we are in college so we dont have much money. do you know
what i shoudl do?"

A. Ummm, cut back to just one spliff a day?
Seriously dude, you are reminding me of my poor old dog having a
senior moment as she looks at me expectantly hoping I can help
her remember exactly what kind of business she is supposed to be
attending to outside....
I have spent a large chunk of time assembling information and easy
to access resources at www.spibreak.com but it is up to the
individual to get the most out of it. You know -- follow the links,
read the content and FAQ, etc. Feel free to fire away if you have
a specific question on a topic that you feel warrants more
attention, but you are more likely to get an answer if I can see
some signs of native intelligence lurking somewhere in your words.

Sandy Feet Asks

As research for an article, I would really like to hear from women
who have participated or anticipate participating in this whole
GGW thing. I can understand stripping for money - brains or
boobs, we all must make a living with our assets. What I don't
understand is stripping for someone else's financial gain --
risking future opportunities (these tapes do not just go away,
they become part of history ) -- to line someone else's pockets.
If you are willing to talk about this based on your personal
experience -- or even if you just have an interesting theory on
why women do this -- I would really like to hear from you.
(Women only, please. I already have a pretty good handle on what
men think.) You don't have to supply your real name or anything,
of course.
